The Vietnamese embassy in the Czech Republic held a meeting on March 23 to introduce representatives from Czech trade agencies, business managers and journalists to two books on the Vietnamese and Czech markets.

The books, compiled by the staff of the Vietnamese embassy staff and trade office in the Czech Republic over the last two years, give an overview of geographical location, economic and political institution and legal system of each nation, especially investment and business opportunities and bilateral cooperation.

Vietnamese ambassador to the Czech Republic Truong Manh Son extolled time-honoured friendship and cooperation between the two countries over the last 67 years, noting that two-way trade has grown by 20% in recent years, reaching nearly US$1 billion in 2016. However, businesses from both nations still have difficulty gaining access to market information.

Ambassador Son emphasized that the publication of two books on the threshold of the upcoming visits by Chairwoman of Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Czech Prime Minister Milos Zeman will help businesses learn more about markets and explore the potential of bilateral partnership.

He said the books have pointed out bilateral trade potential including the introduction of Czech hi-tech products to Vietnam or Vietnam’s farm produce to the Czech Republic.

Jaromir Dudak, head of the Asia-Africa Department from the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, said the launch of two books is a valuable contribution to businesses, noting that they are of great significance to the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic and Czech businesses which want to learn about Vietnamese market and vice versa.

At the meeting, Ambassador Son informed participants of the two upcoming events on Vietnam’s trade promotion in the Czech Republic in 2017 including Vietnam Fruit Week and Vietnam-Czech Tourism Cooperation Forum scheduled for this autumn in Prague.
