In December 2019, Van Gol was added as Ronal Koeman's assistant in the Netherlands national team. In July 2024, he was elected as assistant to coach Erik Ten Hang at MU. On 28 October 2024, after MU decided to fire Erik following recent bad losses, Van Gol was officially chosen as the interim coach of the Red Devils. Looking at Ruud Van Nistelrooy's coaching career, it is difficult to hope that Van Gol will bring the Red Devils a winning streak like when he was a player.
