The annual event was held by the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism with the participation of vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Tam, deputy director of the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Hanh and leaders of Ham Thuan Nam district. Those 400 athletes from seven southeastern provinces and city (Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria- Vung Tau, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh city and Binh Thuan) competed in a 6,300-meter course for men and 5,300 meter-course for women. Both races include the 2,300 meters climbing up Ta Cu mountain to finish the race at the hilltop of Linh Son Truong Tho pagoda.
As a result, male runner Hoang Nguyen Thanh (Binh Phuoc province) went first and won the title “King of Mountain climbing”, followed by Tran Van Cong and Do Van Tinh (both from Binh Thuan province). In the meantime, Dang Cam Tu from Binh Phuoc province topped the women’s category to become the “Queen of Mountain climbing”. Second prize and third prize went to Lam Thi Thuy and Pham Thi Quynh Tram, also from Binh Phuoc province. Finally, Binh Phuoc and Binh Thuan teams were ranked first in the men’s category and women’s category, respectively. The event was cheered by thousands of domestic and foreign visitors along the road leading to Ta Cu mountain.
According to vice chairman of Ham Thuan Nam district’s People’s Committee Do Van Hoang, this prominent sport activity is a chance that helps to heat up the Tet spirit in Ham Thuan Nam district and Ta Cu tourist attraction and exchange experience between the host team (Binh Thuan) and other teams from other provinces in the region. Through the sporting event, Ta Cu national histrorical-cultural heritage can be promoted nationwide and world-wide.
