The wastewater treatment plant, which was first started in October 2015, has a daily capacity of 30,000cu.m was funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) through the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of Korea (Korea Eximbank).
The ODA loan from the Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) is US$46 million, the reciprocal capital of the Government of Vietnam is US$19.6 million invested by An Giang Water and Electricity Joint Stock Company.
According to Luong Van Ba, Chairman of the Board of Directors of An Giang Water and Electricity Joint Stock Company, Long Xuyen City Wastewater Treatment Plant applied advanced and modern technology, which is suitable for all types of seasonal wastewater, and local conditions.
After six months of commissioning, the current waste water collection reaches about 30% of the designed capacity, water samples at two factories are monitored by Centre for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring (under the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of the An Giang province) tested grade A according to QCVN 14: 2008.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kim Jae Hwa, Representative of Korea Eximbank in Hanoi, said that the inauguration of Long Xuyen City Wastewater Treatment Plant will contribute to promoting the friendship and trust between Vietnam and the RoK, while strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries in the future.
According to Le Van Nung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, the plant is the project with the highest total investment in Long Xuyen city. In addition to reducing environmental pollution and disease, creating better living conditions for people, turning Long Xuyen city into a first-class city, promoting socio-economic development of Long Xuyen city and An Giang province. The project also plays an important role in contributing to protecting the community and protecting Hau river’s water source to provide water for daily life in the provinces and cities downstream.
