Variety of gemstones displayed in Phan Thiet City

BTO- Hundreds of artistic works made from precious stones with a diversity of size, shape and color on showcase have attracted much attention and admiration of viewers in Phan Thiet City. These works were carved from a wide range of gemstones such as: Amber, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Emerald, Jade, Opal, Sapphire, Ruby, Onyx… under the artful hands of Mr. Quang Loc (real name Luc Tan Hung), an over-80 year-old craftsman, owner of Kim Ngoc gemstones showroom. When talking to him and contemplating his works, we had a great admiration for his skillfulness, passion and a sensitive heart that are specific characters of authentic artists, turning inanimate stones into wonderful hand-made works.

Previously, Mr. Quang Loc or Hung was a propaganda and training officer during the anti-French resistance war. After graduating from Indochina Fine Arts College (L’école des beaux-Arts de l’Indochine- Vietnam University of Fine Arts today), he joined in the revolutionary movements and became a resistance fighter. Thanks to  aptitude for fine art, he also served as a person in charge of fine art work during the anti-French and anti-American resistance wars of the nation. In 1976, he worked at Thuan Hai provincial Information Service (Department of Culture-Sports and Tourism at present). Between the year 1981 and 1993, he successively held the posts of assistant chief and deputy secretary of Thuan Hai provincial Information Service’s Party Committee before he retired in 1993. 

The  showroom is located on Po Sha Inu Cham tower - Lau Ong Hoang relics on Ba Nai hill-Phu Hai ward, 7 kilometers from the heart of Phan Thiet city to the Northeast. This is regarded as a great legacy with priceless spiritual values of a man who gave a half of his life to collect natural stones. His works have attracted much attention and enjoyment of local people as well as tourists.

Dai Ninh Pass is not the highest area in the Phan Son and Phan Lam forests, but this is the peak of the National Highway 28B connecting the two provinces of Binh Thuan and Lam Dong.
