PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented the title of "Outstanding farmer" to
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has affirmed that the Party and State have issued timely policies to support farmers’ development as the globalization process has posed challenges and impacts to agricultural production and business.
Speaking at the programme “Pride of Vietnamese farmers during 30 years of reform” held in Hanoi on October 14 to mark the 87th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VFU), PM Phuc described farmers as an important force in national development process.
The PM asked the VFU Central Committee to continue upholding its role and protect legitimate rights and interests of farmers.
He expressed wish that business owners who are farmers would contribute more to the agriculture sector and national development.
On this occasion, 87 farmers were honoured with the title “Outstanding farmers during 30 years of reform” for their achievements in agricultural and rural development. They were selected from 137 nominees from 63 cities and provinces across the country.
In response to the anniversary, the VFU Central Committee has recently held a national conference gathering 300 outstanding farmers nationwide, a conference discussing technological application in agricultural production, and a Vietnamese Farmers’ Forum, and a ceremony to grant the national press award “Pride of Vietnamese farmers”, among others.
The title “Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers” was initiated by the VFU Central Committee, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2013.
The annual award ceremony is held on the VFU’s founding day (October 14).
