Archaeologists of Vietnam National Museum of History and Binh Thuan Museum are working at excavation site |
After removing several layers of sand in a month-long excavation, archaeologists found a 250-square meter burial area with 23 graves along with many ancient relics, including ceramic cups decorated with rope belonging to the Pre-Sa Huynh culture. The discovery has proved the existence of pre-Sa Huynh cultural period (about 2,500-3,000 years ago) besides the Sa Huynh culture.
Archaeologist Truong Dac Chien from Vietnam National Museum of History shared that: “Ba Hoe cave archaeological site owns cultural development and relics of both Pre-Sa Huynh and Sa Huynh cultures. Studying these relics is very important for us to learn about development periods from pre-Sa Huynh to Sa Huynh culture”. It is reported that Ba Hoe cave archaeological site has been discovered since 1920 when the French built the National Highway 1. Up to now, 6 excavations have been conduct at the site. Previously, relics excavated in caves of Binh Thuan province had been added to relics belonging to Sa Huynh culture. But the new findings has proved that the site has various factors from different development periods that more researches are needed.
