La Gi had been the township of Ham Tan district until June 3, 2005, when Ministry of Construction issued Decision No.1222 on recognizing it as a forth-class urban area. After 12 years of development, La Gi town has achieved impressive socioeconomic results. Of which, trade, service, tourism, industry and construction sectors have been defined as key industries to make breakthrough for economic development of the town. The town has been invested in complete infrastructures towards a third-grade urban area meeting 5 criteria of urban area classification.
On January 17, 2018, Ministry of Construction promulgated Decision No.32 on recognizing La Gi as a third class urban area with a total scores of 85.59/100, the 46th third-grade urban area nationwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Hoa praised the determination and efforts of local leaders and people, along with the assistance of departments, branches, agencies. He stressed that the authorities would focus on finishing other criteria and updating the general planning in accordance with the province’s guidelines.
