Politburo member and Secretary of Hanoi Party's Committee Dinh Tien Dung made the remark at the meeting with visiting Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on June 22.
Agreeing with the Hanoi leader, Minister Vivian Balakrishnan shared some of Singapore's practical experiences in the process of building smart cities and dealing with urban infrastructure problems, particularly with the planning vision and post-planning management, social housing development and the preservation of cultural values.
The Singaporean Minister also congratulated Vietnam for the effective control of the COVID-19 pandemic while expressing his impression on the development of Hanoi.
Secretary of Hanoi Party's Committee Dinh Tien Dung said that despite the pandemic, Hanoi posted an economic growth of about 6% in the first half of this year and ranked second in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction.
He noted that after 25 years of its establishment, the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) has turned Singapore into one of the leading investors in Vietnam and Hanoi. Hanoi currently hosts 434 valid projects run by Singaporean investors at a total investment of US$7.43 billion - which ranks second, after Japanese investors.
The Hanoi leader added that Hanoi is boosting the improvements to its investment environment and Hanoi authorities have always been consistent with the goal of facilitating people and enterprises, stating that the VSIP model is very suitable for Hanoi.
At the meeting, the Singaporean Minister invited Secretary of Hanoi Party's Committee Dinh Tien Dung to visit Singapore in the near future while Secretary Dung expressed his wish that the minister will act as bridge to further promote the bilateral relations in various areas.
