The two locales and other provinces in Central Vietnam have been hit with flooding caused by heavy rains brought about by several tropical depressions in early September.

Sharing with the difficulties of the local people in Phuong My commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province, Hue conveyed Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s encouragement and gifts to flood victims.

He praised the local efforts in the prevention and response to the floods, with detailed plans to relocate and protect the locals and their properties, as well as supporting each other in natural disasters.

Hue requested the local authorities to prepare medicines to handle environmental issues after floods and take actions to restore production and help people stabilise their lives, while measuring crop losses to report to the Government for consideration and support of seed to ensure production right after the flooding has completely receded.

In the long term, Ha Tinh needs to study and deploy a plan to build safe residential areas and population clusters to help people in flooded areas to minimise the impacts caused by natural disasters, he suggested.

On Saturday evening, Hue and his entourage visited people who were severely affected by the floods in Minh Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province.

Quang Binh still has 263 schools with more than 90,000 students that have not been able to start their new academic year yet due to the influence of rains and floods. There are about 200 classrooms and 10 boarding rooms for teachers that were deeply flooded and damaged. In addition, two people died, 70 km of canals were damaged, over 1,700 houses were flooded and 1,996 households have been relocated during the recent flooding in Quang Binh Province.

Praising efforts in coping with natural disasters by Ha Tinh and Quang Binh as well as the Military Region 4, Deputy PM Hue proposed that the local forces absolutely ensure maximum safety for locals and their properties, while preparing necessary measures to deal with epidemics after floods.

For flooded schools, the senior government official asked the armed forces to support the cleaning of local schools and classrooms so that the new school year 2019-20 could start as soon as possible.

The local authorities were asked to urgently provide rice to locals in flooded areas under the recent government rice support programme, in which PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has decided to utilise rice from the national rice reserve to supply those in the central region affected by flooding in recent days.
