Boat race festival welcoming Lunar New Year 2013

BTO - Traditional boat race festival themed “Celebrating our Party and the Lunar New Year 2013” was held on Ca Ty River, Phan Thiet city in the afternoon of the second day of the first lunar month (February 11, 2013).

The race attracted 9 teams (each team consists of 25 members) coming from 9 wards/communes of Phan Thiet city. They competed for the prizes in 2 distances including 500m and 1,700m in rotation. Boat race is a traditional sport of coastal residents which was originated from long time ago and takes place on the first days of the Lunar New Year. Thousands of locals as well as domestic and foreign visitors gathered along Ca Ty river to enjoy and cheer the race.

After 2-hour-competition in jubilant and animated atmosphere through qualifying rounds and final matches, Duc Long ward’s team won first prize of 500m distance, followed by Duc Thang ward and Phu Trinh ward. Binh Hung and Lac Dao wards were presented with good manner prizes. As for the category of 1,700m in rotation, Duc Thang boat team got the championship after surpassing Lac Dao team. At the same time, more than 20 athletes participated in the contests of coracle rowing and coracle shaking on Ca Ty river.
