Bao Viet K-care, a cancer insurance product co-developed by Bao Viet Insurance, Vietnam National Reinsurance Corporation (VINARE) and global pharmaceutical firm ROCHE, is the first cancer insurance policy in Vietnam. This guarantees access to modern treatment at a network of 95 local hospitals nationwide with a maximum payout of VND 1.2 billion.
Each year in Vietnam there are approximately 150,000 new cancer sufferers with a mortality rate of 50 percent. In the meantime, cancer prevention and treatment expenses are very costly due to high prices of specific drugs and other services, with an average payment of VND 1.4 billion per case of late stage cancer. Data from Ministry of Health show that after 12 months of diagnosis, around 34 percent of patients can no longer afford medication.
The policy covers cancer diagnosis at the first time, both early and late stageswith a maximum payout of VND 1 billion, as well as hospitalization with VND 2 million per day. Men and women aged from 16 to 55 can join K-care package (with a reinsurance term up to 75 years old). Insurance premium depends on insured person’s age and gender.
